Many of us will have felled a small tree or bush at some stage. Sometimes it's relatively simple. But I know that even there I've had challenges. Taking out things like Bougainvillea for instance, had me working with the care of a surgeon, as mine had ferocious thorns. But when it comes to larger trees, tree removal can get far more dangerous. More than three decades ago, a close friend of mine was working on some tree removal on his smallholding. And was killed in the process. Bigger trees are tremendously heavy, often. I have felt the ground move when I have felled large trees in plantations. So here are a few reminders of how badly things can go wrong! |
